Collection: Hallway lighting – first impressions count

The hallway is the first thing visitors see of your home – and the last thing you see before you close the door behind you. Good hallway lighting provides orientation, makes the entrance area inviting, and sets the tone for the rest of the house. At Saasil, you will find hallway lamps for every situation: space-saving for narrow corridors, stylish for spacious entrance areas, and robust for daily use.

Which light is right for you? – A quick comparison

Light Ideal for
Ceiling light Uniform ambient lighting
Recessed spotlight Long, narrow corridors
Wall light Additional atmosphere
Pendant light High, spacious entrances

The right lights for your hallway area

Ceiling lights are the most common choice for the hallway: they illuminate the area evenly, are space-saving, and are available in countless designs – from flat and minimalist to decorative and eye-catching. → To ceiling lights

Recessed spotlights create a clean, modern look in the hallway – particularly popular in long, narrow corridors where several spots illuminate the entire length evenly, such as the set of 9 dimmable IP44 recessed spotlights in matte silver, the set of 6 swiveling GU10 recessed spots including LED, or the compact set of 3 recessed spots in matte nickel. → To recessed spotlights

Wall lights set elegant light accents in the hallway and look particularly beautiful in combination with a ceiling light – for more depth and atmosphere, like the LED wall light with toggle switch in matte nickel. → To wall lights

Pendant lights are suitable for high, spacious entrance areas and make an instant impression as a single light or in a group, like the TITANIC pendant light made of glass with a mother-of-pearl effect. → To pendant lights

Lighting design for the hallway – how to do it right

Retrofitting motion control: Automatic switching is particularly practical for trips through the hallway at night. With a separate motion sensor module, an existing hallway light can be retrofitted so that it switches on and off automatically.

Brightness & color temperature: The hallway should be bright enough to navigate safely. Warm white (approx. 2,700–3,000 K) is suitable for cozy entrance areas, neutral white (approx. 3,500–4,000 K) for particularly clear orientation, such as in long or darker hallways.

Illuminating long hallways evenly

In long hallways, rely on several recessed spotlights or ceiling lights instead of a single light source. Ensure even spacing between the lights to avoid dark gaps or isolated pools of light – this way, the entire hallway appears consistently bright rather than patchily lit.

Light in the cloakroom area

Additional, targeted light is worthwhile in the cloakroom area: above the mirror for a final look before leaving the apartment, above the coat rack so that items of clothing can be easily found, as well as by the shoe cabinet or shelf for a better overview when getting dressed.

Illuminating a hallway with stairs

In an entrance area with stairs, a combination of ambient light in the hallway and additional lighting along the staircase is recommended so that the transition between levels remains safe and clearly visible.

Making small hallways appear larger

Bright ceiling lights combined with indirect light make a small hallway look visually larger. A mirror, also well-lit, further enhances this effect and reflects existing light back into the room.

Glare-free: Glare-free light is important, especially in the entrance area – particularly when you come home at night and your eyes first have to adjust to the brightness.

Illuminating the shoe cabinet

An LED strip under the shoe cabinet or indirect light in the base area provides additional orientation and a decorative accent, without any harsh light directly in your field of vision.

How many lumens does my hallway need?

Area Recommendation
Narrow corridor 100–150 lm/m²
Large entrance area 150–250 lm/m²
Cloakroom / Mirror 300–500 lm

Color rendering (CRI)

A color rendering index of Ra 80 is usually sufficient for the hallway. If there is a mirror in the entrance area for a final look before leaving the house, a model with Ra 90 or higher is worthwhile.

Materials

Metal is one of the most common materials for hallway lights and ensures a durable, easy-care appearance. Glass provides additional light reflections, as seen in the TITANIC pendant light. Aluminum is primarily found in modern recessed spotlight sets.

Bulbs: E27 bulbs or GU10 bulbs are often used in the hallway. LED variants are particularly sensible here, as they remain durable even with frequent switching on and off.

Smart Home: Motion control is particularly useful in the hallway – light that turns on automatically when you come home and turns off by itself after a few minutes. Saves energy and you never have to look for the switch again. Compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit.

Choose your style: Whether modern, retro, or Scandinavian – the hallway light gives the first hint of your personal interior design style.

Personal lighting consultation in the Wuppertal showroom

Which hallway light best fits your entrance area depends on room height, width, and personal style. At the Saasil showroom in Wuppertal-Vohwinkel, we offer personal advice and help you create the right first impression. For over 30 years, individual consultation has been at the heart of what we do.

Located between Düsseldorf, Cologne, Essen, and Dortmund – right in the middle of the Bergisches Land region – you will find our lamp store in Wuppertal. Many customers visit us specifically because they are looking for a local lamp store and want to see their new hallway light in person before purchasing.

Frequently asked questions

Which light color is suitable for the hallway?

Neutral white light (3,000–4,000 K) appears inviting without feeling too cold. For cozier entrance areas, warm white is also an option.

Can I retrofit my hallway light with a motion sensor?

Yes, with a separate PIR motion sensor module, an existing hallway light can be retrofitted with automatic switching.

Which light is suitable for a narrow corridor?

Flat ceiling lights or a row of recessed spotlights work well for narrow corridors, as they take up hardly any space and illuminate the entire length evenly.

How many lumens do I need for my hallway?

For a narrow corridor, 100–150 lumens per square meter are sufficient; for a large entrance area, 150–250 lumens per square meter are recommended.

Is a pendant light suitable for the hallway?

Yes, especially with high ceilings and spacious entrance areas, a pendant light as a single piece or in a group makes an instant impression.
