The right lamps for your bathroom
Mirror lights & lamps are the most important lights in the bathroom: they provide shadow-free, uniform light at the mirror – essential for applying makeup, shaving, and your morning routine, such as the 91.5 cm long LED bathroom lamp with 1,600 lumens and IP44 protection. → To mirror lamps
Recessed spotlights (IP44) provide uniform general lighting from the ceiling and, in moisture-protected versions, are ideal for the bathroom, such as the 9-piece set of dimmable IP44 recessed spotlights in silver, the 6-piece set of ultra-slim IP44 recessed spots, or the compact recessed spot with 4-stage click-dim function. → To recessed spotlights
Wall lights complement mirror lighting and create a pleasant, indirect bathroom atmosphere – especially beautiful when mounted on both sides of the mirror. → To wall lights
Ceiling lights (IP44), as a version suitable for damp rooms, are ideal as a main light source in the bathroom – simple, functional, and available in many designs. → To ceiling lights
Bathroom lighting planning – how to succeed
Note protection classes: Specific protection zones apply in the bathroom. Directly above the tub or shower (Zone 1), IP44 is mandatory; inside the shower itself (Zone 0), IP67 is required. Outside of wet areas, IP20 is sufficient.
Plan two lighting circuits: Bright mirror light (neutral white, 4,000 K) for the morning and dimmed ambient light (warm white, 2,700 K) for relaxing evenings – this is the ideal bathroom lighting concept.
How to properly light my mirror?
Side lights to the left and right of the mirror provide particularly shadow-free, even illumination of the face. A single light placed only above the mirror, however, casts more shadows under the eyes and nose, which makes makeup application and shaving more difficult. Where possible, the combination of side lighting and a light above the mirror is the best solution.
Mirror size: If possible, the mirror light should be about as wide as the mirror or at least illuminate the face area evenly so that no dark edges are created.
Lighting based on bathroom size
In a guest toilet, a single, well-positioned light above or next to the mirror is usually sufficient. In a family bathroom, several light zones are recommended – such as mirror light, general lighting from the ceiling, and possibly additional light above the shower. In a wellness bathroom, indirect light, such as from LED strips or dimmable wall lights, rounds off the relaxing atmosphere.
Glare-free: Pay particular attention to glare-free light, especially with mirrors, high-gloss tiles, and glass surfaces, as these surfaces easily enhance reflections.
LED strips in the bathroom
Many modern wellness bathrooms also rely on LED strips: under floating furniture, under the vanity, or in an illuminated niche. They create a soft, indirect light that enhances the atmosphere without replacing the function of the main lighting. → To LED strips
How many lumens does my bathroom need?
| Area |
Recommendation |
| General lighting |
150–200 lm/m² |
| Mirror light |
700–1,200 lm |
| Guest toilet |
400–600 lm |
Color rendering (CRI)
For makeup and shaving, mirror lights with a color rendering index of Ra 90 or higher are recommended so that skin tone and colors appear natural. For general lighting, Ra 80 is usually sufficient.
Materials
Aluminum and metal are among the most durable materials for the damp bathroom area, as they do not rust. Glass provides additional light reflections, as seen in the long LED bathroom lamp. Acrylic is found primarily in lightweight, modern diffuser covers.
Light sources: Many bathroom lamps use G9 bulbs or GU10 bulbs. LED versions are also durable and energy-efficient in the damp bathroom climate.
Smart Home: Smart bathroom lighting adapts to your daily rhythm: cool, bright light in the morning to wake you up, warm dimmed light in the evening to wind down. Motion detectors ensure the light turns on automatically – practical and energy-saving. Compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit.
Choose your style: Whether Modern, Art Deco, or Scandinavian – a lamp can be a design statement in the bathroom too.

Frequently asked questions

Which light color is suitable for applying makeup?
For the most natural, daylight-accurate illumination, neutral white light with approximately 4,000 Kelvin is best.
How many lumens do I need for my mirror light?
For a well-lit mirror, 700–1,200 lumens are recommended, depending on mirror size and room brightness.
Can I set up two different lighting moods in the bathroom?
Yes, we recommend a combination of bright, neutral white mirror light for the morning and dimmed, warm white ambient light for relaxing evenings.
Which material is best for bathroom lamps?
Aluminum and metal are particularly resistant to moisture and do not rust, making them the most durable choice for the bathroom.
