We are currently expanding our range to include a selection of solar lights – from solar table lamps, wall lights, ground spike lights, and recessed ground lights to floodlights, street lamps, house number lights, string lights, lanterns, and pendant lamps. Until then, we would like to provide you with a solid overview so that you are well-informed as soon as the first models become available.

How do solar lights work?

Solar lights charge an integrated battery via a solar panel during the day and switch on automatically when it gets dark – usually controlled by a built-in dusk-to-dawn sensor. Since no wiring is required, they can be placed almost anywhere in the garden, on the facade, or along paths, without the need for any electrical installation.

How long do solar lights stay on?

The lighting duration depends heavily on the amount of sunlight received during the day. On long, sunny summer days, the batteries charge fully and often last all night. In winter, with less and lower-angle sunlight, the charge is lower, which shortens the lighting duration accordingly.

Do solar lights work in winter?

Yes, solar lights generally work in winter, though with some limitations. Shorter days and the sun's lower position provide less charging energy, reducing the runtime. Snow on the solar panel can also block charging and should be removed regularly. On very overcast winter days, the lighting duration may be shorter than in summer.

Batteries in solar lights

Most solar lights use either NiMH (nickel-metal hydride) batteries or modern Li-ion (lithium-ion) batteries. Li-ion batteries generally offer higher energy density and a longer lifespan than classic NiMH batteries, but they are usually slightly more expensive. Depending on the model, the battery can be replaced after a few years of operation, which significantly extends the overall life of the light. When selecting our future range, we specifically look for models with replaceable batteries.

How many lumens should my solar light have?

Solar or wired?

Solar lights score points with their simple, wireless installation and zero running costs – ideal for areas without an existing power connection. Wired outdoor lights, on the other hand, provide constant high brightness, regardless of weather or season, and are better suited for security-related or heavily trafficked areas like driveways or house entrances.

What kind of solar lights will be available?

Solar table lamps are suitable for the terrace, balcony, or garden table and can be repositioned flexibly. Solar wall lights bring wireless light to the facade, garage, or garden wall. Solar ground spike lights are placed directly into beds to highlight plants or path edges. Solar recessed ground lights are installed flush into terrace tiles or path surfaces to mark steps or walkways. Solar floodlights provide powerful light for driveways or courtyards. Solar street lamps are suitable for long paths or larger properties. Solar house number lights ensure that your house number remains clearly visible at night. Solar string lights create decorative accents on the terrace or in the garden, while solar lanterns and solar pendant lamps combine classic designs with wireless technology.

What to look for when buying

Battery capacity & lighting duration: The larger the battery, the longer the solar light will continue to shine even in darker months.

Panel size & location: The solar panel requires the sunniest possible location without permanent shade to charge reliably. While direct sun is ideal, many panels also charge sufficiently in bright, diffuse daylight.

Protection class (IP rating): For permanent outdoor use, IP44 is recommended; for ground-level models like ground spike or recessed lights, IP65 or higher is preferred.

Light color & brightness: Warm white light creates a cozy atmosphere, while neutral white light is more functional – the right choice depends on the intended location.
