Which outdoor ceiling light is right for you?

Round, compact outdoor ceiling lights are ideal for canopies, entrance areas, or balcony ceilings, such as the IP65 ceiling/wall light with grille and cover in white or the same light as an IP65 ceiling/wall light with grille and cover in black – both can be mounted on either the ceiling or the wall. A classic round shape is also offered by the round IP54 outdoor ceiling light made of die-cast aluminum in white.

Universal ceiling lights can be used both indoors and outdoors and are particularly suitable for covered areas with a bit more ceiling space, such as the 65 cm universal ceiling lamp with IP65 protection or the oval all-purpose light made of cast aluminum for wall and ceiling with an E27 socket.

Damp-proof batten lights are the robust choice for garages, basements, workshops, or utility rooms: They usually offer the highest protection rating in this collection and are designed for durability rather than design, such as the IP65 batten light with two tubes, dimmable and swiveling or the more compact IP65 batten light with one tube. Our weather-proof outdoor ceiling lights are also suitable for carports, balconies, canopies, front entrances, side entrances, bin storage areas, garden sheds, or bicycle shelters.

How many lumens should my outdoor ceiling light have?

At what height should an outdoor ceiling light be mounted?

For canopies, mounting directly at the lower edge of the canopy has proven effective, usually between 200 and 220 cm above the ground, so that the entrance area is illuminated without glare. In a carport, the height depends on the vehicle's clearance height; about 200–250 cm is standard. In the garage, it is best to mount the light in the center of the ceiling, usually at the height of the existing ceiling wiring. In the basement, the standard ceiling height is generally sufficient; the most important thing is the even distribution of several lights throughout the room.

Outdoor ceiling light with motion sensor

An outdoor ceiling light with a motion sensor switches on automatically as soon as someone approaches – practical for carports, front entrances, or side entrances, where your hands are often full. Our current range of outdoor ceiling lights does not include models with an integrated motion sensor. As an alternative, our outdoor wall lights with motion sensors are available, which are also suitable for many of the mentioned areas of application.

Twilight sensor

A twilight sensor switches the light on automatically when it gets dark and off again at daybreak – practical for areas that should be illuminated at the same time every day without having to switch them manually. This function is also not included in our current range of outdoor ceiling lights.

What you should consider when buying

Protection class (IP protection): For covered outdoor areas, IP44 is usually sufficient. In the event of direct contact with rain or splashing water, as well as in damp rooms such as garages or basements, IP65 or higher is recommended.

Material & Weather resistance: Die-cast aluminum and high-quality plastic are the most common materials in this collection. They do not fade, do not rust, and remain reliable for years.

Light color: Warm white light (2,700–3,000 K) creates an inviting atmosphere at the entrance or on the terrace, while neutral white light (4,000 K) is better suited for functional areas such as garages or basements.

Light source: Some models use E27 bulbs, others have an integrated LED. Integrated LEDs are the most low-maintenance solution, as no bulb change is necessary.

Why LED outdoor ceiling lights?

LED outdoor ceiling lights have now almost completely replaced classic incandescent and fluorescent models in outdoor and damp areas. They are energy-efficient, particularly durable, and weather-resistant, which is crucial for year-round use in garages or basements. At the same time, they reach full brightness immediately and are therefore particularly low-maintenance.

LED or fluorescent tube?

Classic damp-proof lights used to run mostly on fluorescent tubes. Modern LED batten lights like our Omega models replace this technology with integrated LEDs, combining lower power consumption with a significantly longer service life.

Color rendering (CRI)

For most outdoor and damp-room applications, a color rendering index of Ra 80 is completely sufficient. In workshops or work areas where colors must be exactly recognizable, a model with Ra 90 or higher is worthwhile.

Smart-home-capable outdoor ceiling lights

Many users look specifically for outdoor ceiling lights with Zigbee, Wi-Fi, app, or Alexa connectivity. We do not carry such smart models in our current range of outdoor ceiling lights – our lights are controlled in the classic way via a switch. If you are looking for a smart solution, you can use a smart LED bulb for models with replaceable bulbs.

Which outdoor ceiling light fits your furnishing style?

In addition to simple, modern shapes, we also carry models that fit well into an industrial style or Scandinavian-reduced architecture. For country house facades, classic round shapes are more suitable. Minimalist architecture, on the other hand, benefits from simple, understated lights without decorative details.

Materials

Die-cast aluminum and high-quality plastic are the most common materials in our range. Our models are available in white and black. We do not currently carry stainless steel, glass, and anthracite in this collection – it is worth taking a look at our outdoor wall lights, where these materials and colors are part of the assortment.
