GU5.3 bulbs are often referred to in retail as MR16 bulbs. This term is familiar to many customers because a great many MR16 reflector lamps are equipped with a GU5.3 base.

GU5.3 and MR16 – what is the difference?

Technically, GU5.3 describes the two-pin base with a contact spacing of approximately 5.3 mm. MR16, on the other hand, stands for the typical shape and size class of the reflector. Both terms are often used together in retail, but they do not technically mean exactly the same thing.

Important information when buying GU5.3 bulbs

Voltage and transformer: At Saasil, you will currently find GU5.3 halogen reflector lamps for 12V systems. Check that the voltage and wattage match your luminaire and the existing transformer or control gear.

Dimensions and beam angle: Compare the dimensions and beam angle of the new bulb with the previous product and the space available in the luminaire.

Switching from halogen to LED: A matching GU5.3 base alone is not enough. The LED bulb must also be compatible with the existing voltage, the transformer or control gear, and, if applicable, the dimmer.
