Home Office Lighting – Light for Focus & Productivity
In the study, good lighting is not a matter of style – it is a matter of health and productivity. The right lighting reduces eye strain, increases concentration, and makes long workdays more pleasant. At Saasil, you will find work lights for every need: from precise desk lamps and glare-free ceiling lights to indirect light that enhances the atmosphere in your home office.
Which light is right for you? – A quick comparison
| Light | Ideal for |
|---|---|
| Desk lamp | Precise task lighting |
| Floor lamp | Indirect ambient lighting |
| Ceiling light / Recessed spotlight | General lighting |
| Spotlights | Shelves, whiteboards, accents |
| LED strip | Bias lighting behind the monitor |
The right lights for your study
Desk lamps are the centerpiece of any workstation lighting – dimmable, with adjustable color temperature and a flexible arm for precise, eye-friendly light right at the workstation, such as the dimmable LED desk lamp with touch control and USB port or the dimmable Lotus desk lamp with USB port. → To desk lamps
Floor lamps, such as arc lamps or reading lights, provide indirect ambient light next to the desk – they relieve eye strain and reduce the contrast between a bright screen and a dark room. → To floor lamps
Ceiling lights & recessed spotlights provide uniform general lighting in the study, such as the 9-piece set of dimmable recessed spotlights in warm white or the compact 6-piece set of mini recessed spotlights in satin aluminum, 36 mm. For concentrated work during the day, we recommend an additional model with a neutral white color temperature or an adjustable bulb that can be adapted to the time of day – warm white recessed spotlights, on the other hand, are particularly suitable for the end of the workday or more relaxed phases of work in the evening. → To recessed lights
Spotlights are ideal for targeted accents – for example, to specifically illuminate shelves, whiteboards, or certain work areas without brightening the entire room. → To spotlights
Track systems offer maximum flexibility in the study – several lights can be individually adjusted and coordinated with different work areas. → To track systems
LED strips behind the monitor or under the desk create soft bias lighting, which relieves eye strain during long hours of screen work. → To LED strips
For additional decorative accents on a sideboard or shelf, table lamps such as the small LED table lamp Johannesburg with concrete base and opal glass or the stylized, flat LED table lamp STEVE with touch dimmer are also suitable.
Lighting design for the study – how to succeed
Choose color temperature consciously: Neutral white light (3,500–4,000 K) promotes concentration and alertness – ideal for productive work phases. For the evening hours, we recommend a dimmable solution with warmer light to support your natural rhythm. You can find suitable LED & halogen dimmers directly at Saasil.
Anti-glare on the screen: Lights should never shine directly into your field of vision or onto the monitor. Indirect lighting and glare-free lights are a must in the workplace.
Combine multiple light levels: The best workstation lighting consists of general light (ceiling), task light (desk lamp), and indirect light (floor lamp) – this prevents annoying contrasts and protects your eyes in the long term.
Where should the desk lamp be placed?
If you are right-handed, you should place the desk lamp on the left; if you are left-handed, place it on the right – this prevents shadows on the work surface cast by your writing hand.
The right light for video conferences
For a good image in video conferences, the light should come from the front rather than from the side or above. You should avoid having a window behind you, as the camera will otherwise overexpose the light and your face will appear dark. Harsh, direct ceiling lighting also casts unflattering shadows – an additional, softer light source at eye level significantly improves the result.
Home office lighting: What matters
The right home office lamp ideally combines several functions: good task lighting at the desk, pleasant ambient lighting for long workdays, and, ideally, a dimmable or color-temperature-adjustable solution that adapts to different tasks and times of day.
Desk position & daylight
Ideally, place your desk parallel to the window rather than sitting with your back to it or directly facing it – this avoids glare while making optimal use of available daylight. Artificial light should meaningfully supplement daylight, not replace it.
For screen-based workstations, uniform room brightness is recommended to avoid high contrast differences, so that the eyes do not have to constantly readjust.
How many lumens does my study need?
| Area | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| General lighting | 150–200 lm/m² |
| Desk | 400–700 lm |
| Shelf / Accent light | 200–400 lm |
Color rendering (CRI)
For daily office work, a color rendering index of Ra 80 is sufficient. Those who also need to judge colors precisely at their desk, for example in design or graphic work, should look for Ra 90 or higher.
Materials
Aluminum and metal provide clean, modern lines and are particularly durable, as seen with the STEVE table lamp. Glass adds lightness and subtle light reflections. Plastic is primarily found in budget-conscious recessed spotlight sets.
Smart home in the study: Smart lighting is particularly valuable in the home office – light scenes for video conferences, focus phases, or the end of the workday can be controlled via app or voice without interrupting your workflow. Compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit.
Choose your style: Even a study can show personality. Whether modern, Scandinavian, or vintage – a harmonious interior is proven to increase motivation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which light color is suitable for the study?
Neutral white light (3,500–4,000 K) promotes concentration and alertness. For evening hours, a dimmable solution with warmer light is recommended.
How many lumens do I need at my desk?
For concentrated work, 400–700 lumens are recommended directly at the workstation, supplemented by 150–200 lumens per square meter as general lighting in the room.
How do I avoid glare on the screen?
Lights should never shine directly into your field of vision or onto the monitor. Indirect lighting and lights with anti-glare features reliably reduce annoying reflections.
What is bias lighting and what is it used for?
Bias lighting is an LED strip behind the monitor that reduces the contrast between a bright screen and a dark room, thereby relieving eye strain during long hours of screen work.
What are the benefits of smart home lighting in the home office?
Light scenes for video conferences, focus phases, or the end of the workday can be controlled via app or voice without interrupting your workflow by switching lights manually.
