What you should consider before purchasing

Three things are decisive: the required output voltage (12V, 24V, or 230V), the wattage of your lamps, and whether you need dimming functionality. Constant current drivers protect LEDs from overloading and ensure flicker-free, even light – which is especially important for high-quality installations.

What specifications must I compare?

Before ordering a transformer or driver, you should match six specifications with your existing system or lamp: input voltage (usually 230V), output voltage (e.g., 12V, 24V), current in milliamperes for constant current drivers, wattage, the existing plug type or connector, and for DC applications, the polarity. If these values do not match, it can lead to malfunctions or, in the worst case, a defect.

Common mistakes during selection

Wrong current: A constant current driver with the wrong milliampere rating can underpower or overpower connected LEDs. Wrong voltage: A transformer with a different output voltage can damage the light source or prevent it from lighting up at all. Too little wattage: If the transformer's power is insufficient for the connected load, it may lead to flickering, overheating, or failure. Transformer not LED-compatible: Classic halogen transformers often require a minimum load that energy-efficient LED light sources may fall below – the result is flickering or a total failure.

Plan for a wattage buffer

A transformer should not be permanently loaded at 100% capacity. Plan for a reserve of about 20% in wattage so that the transformer does not constantly operate at its limit – this protects the component and noticeably extends its service life.

Which replacement driver do I need?

If a driver is defective, take a look at the original component: Note down the input and output voltage, current or wattage, and the connection type. With this information, you can usually find a matching, identical, or compatible replacement driver with us, even if the exact original model is no longer available.

CE marking & safety

When purchasing, look for the CE marking, which confirms that the product meets applicable European safety requirements. This is an important quality feature, especially for electrical components like transformers and drivers.

IP ratings for transformers & power supplies

IP20 is suitable for indoor use in dry rooms. IP44 is suitable for areas with occasional splashing water, such as damp rooms. IP67 is required if the transformer is permanently exposed to moisture, such as for outdoor installations or near the floor.
