Torchiere floor lamps illuminate the entire room indirectly by reflecting light off the ceiling. Which floor lamp matches your interior style?

For a modern or minimalist look, clean shapes in metal or glass without playful details are suitable. Scandinavian interiors focus on light colors, reduced shapes, and textile shades. The industrial style thrives on raw metal, visible sockets, and dark finishes. Vintage lovers opt for mouth-blown glass and warm filament bulbs. In the country house style, wooden details and classic fabric shades fit best. Boho interiors benefit from organic shapes and warm materials, while a classic interior style tends towards timeless floor lamps with fabric shades in muted colors.

How many lumens should my floor lamp have?

As a rough guideline: about 300–800 lumens are sufficient for a cozy ambiance in the living room. For reading, around 600–1,000 lumens are recommended so that text can be read without fatigue even over longer periods. For focused work at a desk, 1,000 lumens or more is preferred – ideally in combination with an additional, closer light source like a desk lamp.

Why LED floor lamps?

LED floor lamps have almost completely replaced classic incandescent and halogen models today. They consume significantly less power, have a very long service life, and reach full brightness instantly, without a warm-up phase. At the same time, they generate almost no heat, are often dimmable, and are available in various light colors. Since modern LEDs work reliably for many years, LED floor lamps are also particularly low-maintenance.

Color rendering (CRI)

A color rendering index of Ra 80 is usually sufficient for living spaces. Anyone who values particularly natural colors should choose models with Ra 90 or higher.

Smart floor lamps

Smart home features such as Alexa, Google Home, or Zigbee connectivity are usually not a permanent feature of the lamp itself, but depend on the bulb used. Since most of our floor lamps use E27 sockets, virtually any of our floor lamps can be retrofitted with a smart LED bulb – including app control, dimming, and color changing via voice assistant. Models with an integrated touch or foot switch dimmer already offer these convenience features from the factory, without the need for an additional smart bulb.

What you should consider when buying

Height & Proportions: A floor lamp should match the room height and the surrounding furniture. Arc lamps need a bit more space, but they have an expansive and elegant effect.

Light direction: Torchiere lamps illuminate the room diffusely; spotlights illuminate specifically. Think about whether you need ambient light, accent light, or both – many floor lamps combine both in one, such as the light pillar with fabric shade and dual-switch light function.

Dimmability: Almost all floor lamps benefit from a dimmer. Look for compatible LED & halogen dimmers or choose a model with an integrated foot switch dimmer.

Bulb: For arc lamps with a shade, a warm white filament bulb is worthwhile for a particularly cozy light atmosphere, as with the round, height-adjustable floor lamp with a white fabric shade.
