Which mirror light is right for you?

Mirror lights mounted above the mirror are the classic version: they are installed horizontally above the mirror to illuminate the face from above, such as the 91.5 cm long LED bathroom light with 1,600 lumens. Particularly suitable when there is enough space above the mirror.

Mirror lights mounted to the side of the mirror illuminate the face more evenly than ceiling lights and avoid annoying shadows – the preferred solution for vanity areas, such as the adjustable LED mirror lamp in chrome, 37 cm. Especially beautiful in modern or Art Deco styled bathrooms.

Clamp-on lights can be attached directly to the mirror or cabinet without any drilling – ideal for retrofitting in rented apartments, such as the clamp-on LED light for mirrors and cabinets in chrome or the swiveling mirror clamp-on light with two G9 sockets.

Picture lights with indirect background lighting sit behind mirrors or picture frames to create a soft frame of light rather than direct glare, for instance the 57 cm long picture light with indirect background lighting or the 137 cm long picture light for mirrors up to 180×200 cm.

Where are mirror lights suitable?

In the bathroom, a mirror light provides essential daily illumination for brushing teeth, shaving, and applying makeup. In a guest toilet, a compact model adds a decorative accent without taking up much space. At a vanity or dressing table in the bedroom, side lighting ensures particularly natural, shadow-free illumination. In hotels, high-quality mirror lights are standard bathroom equipment. Precise, glare-free mirror lights are also indispensable for daily work in beauty salons and barbershops. In the dressing room, a mirror light provides the perfect finishing touch for a final look before leaving the house.

How many lumens should my mirror light have?

For a small mirror in a guest toilet, 400–600 lumens are usually sufficient. In a standard bathroom, we recommend 700–1,200 lumens for sufficiently bright, glare-free illumination. For large mirrors or picture lights over 100 cm in length, 1,200 lumens or more is advisable to ensure the light is even across the entire width.

Color Rendering (CRI)

For makeup and shaving, we recommend mirror lights with a color rendering index of Ra 90 or higher. This makes skin tones and colors appear natural, and allows even fine details to be recognized precisely while applying makeup or shaving.

Which size fits my mirror?

As a rule of thumb, the mirror light should cover at least 60–70% of the mirror width to ensure the face is evenly illuminated. For smaller mirrors and guest toilets, compact models around 30–37 cm are suitable, such as the 33 cm long mirror light with two E14 sockets. For medium-sized mirrors, lengths around 55–60 cm are ideal, while for large mirrors and picture lights, models up to 137 cm are available, suitable for mirrors up to 180×200 cm.

Which mirror light matches your interior style?

For a modern look, clear shapes made of chrome or glass without playful details are suitable. The industrial style thrives on raw metal and reduced, functional forms. In the Art Deco style, geometric shapes and shiny surfaces like brass or chrome fit particularly well. Classic and minimalist bathrooms, on the other hand, benefit from simple, timeless models in white or brushed metal that blend unobtrusively into almost any interior.

Materials

Chrome is by far the most popular material for mirror lights – shiny, easy to maintain, and matching most fittings. Black and white set a subtle or high-contrast accent depending on the bathroom. Stainless steel and aluminum look particularly robust and modern, while glass – for example as a frosted glass cover – further diffuses the light softly.

Why LED mirror lights?

LED mirror lights have now almost completely replaced classic halogen and incandescent models in the bathroom. They are energy-saving, particularly durable, and generate hardly any heat, which is pleasant when close to the face. At the same time, they provide even light without flickering and require very little maintenance, as integrated LEDs usually eliminate the need for bulb replacements for years.

Ceiling light or mirror light?

A ceiling light alone is rarely enough in the bathroom, as it casts shadows under the eyes, nose, and chin. An additional mirror light compensates for this and provides illumination that comes close to looking into a professional vanity mirror.

Smart-home-compatible mirror lights

Smart home functions like app control or voice assistants are the exception rather than the rule for classic mirror lights. In our current range, mirror lights can be controlled via switches, pull switches, or dimmers, but not via Wi-Fi, Zigbee, or Alexa. If you are still looking for a smart solution, you can use a smart LED bulb for models with replaceable bulbs and retrofit the control this way.

Things to consider before buying

Protection class (IP rating): In the bathroom, the protection class is crucial. Lights in Zone 1 (directly above the tub/shower) require at least IP44, in Zone 0 at least IP67. Saasil marks all lights with the corresponding protection class.

Color temperature: Warm white (2,700–3,000 K) creates a relaxed bathroom atmosphere; neutral white (4,000 K) is better suited for makeup, shaving, and daylight-accurate illumination. Many modern mirror lights offer adjustable color temperature.

Light source: Many mirror lamps use G9 bulbs, E14 bulbs, or integrated LEDs, such as the 2-lamp G9 mirror lamp in matte nickel with frosted glass. For replaceable bulbs, the LED version is worthwhile for maximum energy efficiency.
