LED, halogen, or filament – when buying a new bulb, many customers face exactly this question. Yet the answer is not actually that complicated if you know what to look for.
LED – the bulb of the future
Anyone buying a new bulb today can hardly avoid LEDs – and for good reason. LED bulbs consume up to 80% less electricity than classic incandescent bulbs and last significantly longer. A good LED can easily be in operation for 15 to 25 years without needing to be replaced.
The slightly higher purchase price pays for itself quickly through lower operating costs. For most rooms – whether the living room, kitchen, or bathroom – LED is the top choice today.
Halogen – good, but outdated
For a long time, halogen bulbs were the standard when it came to natural, warm light. They shine at full brightness immediately and render colors very naturally – which is why they remain popular today in areas such as jewelry or art lighting.
The disadvantage is obvious: halogen bulbs consume significantly more electricity and get very hot. For normal household use, there are better alternatives available today.
Filament – when appearance matters
Filament LEDs are a special category. They look like old incandescent bulbs with a visible filament – but modern LED technology is hidden inside. This makes them the perfect choice for anyone who considers the look of the bulb just as important as the light itself.
Pendant lights, chandeliers, or open sockets – wherever the bulb is visible and intended to contribute to the interior design style, a filament LED looks excellent. The light is warm and cozy, usually in the 2700 Kelvin range.
What is right for you?
For everyday use, LED is almost always the right choice – efficient, long-lasting, and available in every light color. If you value aesthetics, choose a filament LED. And halogen still has its place where perfect color rendering is required.
